Amerikaanse adoptiegezinnen op rootsreis in China

A group of adopted Chinese children together with their American parents have recently come to China. They made a trip back to their orphanage to learn about Chinese culture.
Ellen Doolin is an American mom who has adopted 5 Chinese orphans. This time she has come to China with her two younger children, 8 year old Leeana and 5 year old Stephan.
Leeana was an orphan born with a harelip. Ellen and her husband spent thousands of dollars to cure her. But for Ellen, to make her adopted children feel they're part of the family is the biggest challenge.
Ellen and her children are on a program held by Chinese Children Adoption, an association based in the US state of Colorado. 90 families have come to China this time to help their children learn more about the country they were born in.
China now has 710-thousand orphans. That number is up 25 percent from 5 years ago. Most of the children are abandoned because they have physical or mental disabilities. But love from a family and social care are the things they need the most.
